November 18 @ 12:00 pm - 1:30 pm

Move Better. Load Better. Live Stronger.

Understanding Pain, Movement & Getting More From Your OsteoStrong Sessions

ABOUT THE TALK

Why does pain change the way we move, and how can this affect our ability to exercise and load our bodies effectively?

In this interactive Strong Talk, physiotherapist and Fascial Counterstrain practitioner Nad Perera will explore the relationship between pain, movement and strength.

Nad will explain why pain is not always a simple reflection of tissue damage, how the body’s protective responses can influence movement and force production and why two people experiencing pain in the same area may have very different contributing factors.

Using practical examples and 3D anatomy, Nad will also introduce the Fascial Counterstrain approach to assessing pain and movement. He’ll explore how improving movement options and reducing barriers to comfortable movement may help people participate more confidently in exercise and loading.

The presentation will connect these concepts directly with OsteoStrong and provide practical strategies members can use to help them move better, load better and live stronger.

KEY TAKEAWAYS – Members will learn:

  • Why pain can change the way we move, and why the location of pain doesn’t always tell the whole story.
  • How mobility, positioning, control and protective responses can influence our ability to produce force and load effectively.
  • Practical ways to support movement, exercise, recovery and confidence between OsteoStrong sessions.

ABOUT NAD PERERA

Nad Perera is a registered physiotherapist and Owner of Alive Physio & Wellness in Hawthorn. He graduated with a Bachelor of Physiotherapy from La Trobe University in 2004 and has worked across public health and private practice, establishing his own private practice in 2007.

Nad has undertaken extensive postgraduate training in manual therapy and has a particular interest in persistent and complex pain, movement dysfunction and whole-body assessment. A major focus of his clinical work is Fascial Counterstrain (FCS), a gentle manual therapy and assessment approach that looks beyond the location of symptoms to explore different tissue systems and potential contributors to protective tension and movement restriction.

Nad is the only physiotherapist in Victoria with formal training in Fascial Counterstrain, bringing a specialised perspective to understanding pain, movement and whole-body function.

His clinical philosophy is to understand the individual rather than simply treat the painful area with the aim of helping people move more comfortably, build confidence in their bodies and return to the activities that matter to them.
